Town Council.

Margaret Bratton

Picture
Email Margaret!

About the Candidate: Margaret Bratton has a life-long connection to Avon.  After graduating from Avon High School, she attended Bryant University where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Management.  She started her HR career with the Navy Exchange Service Command in New York and Virginia where she supported the needs of U.S. service members and their families, providing essential products and services to the military community.  She also worked for Aetna as a Group Accounts Senior Analyst providing customer service to employees of Fortune 500 companies who were insured with Group Long Term Care, as well as acting as the liaison for those companies’ Payroll and Human Resources Departments.
Margaret and her husband, Ken, raised three children in Avon, all graduates of Avon High School.  She has served as a Deacon with the Avon Congregational Church, a Girl Scout leader, and was active in the Avon Schools’ PTOs.  She also understands the complexities of the aging process, as she was a full-time caregiver to her mother for five years.
Margaret has served eighteen years on the Board of Finance and two years on the Town Council.  She understands Avon’s obligation to all its generations.  In her roles on the two Town Boards, she has demonstrated that she listens to the concerns of Avon residents and business owners, and responds and leads accordingly.  Margaret has a humble, approachable, and friendly demeanor in her unwavering dedication to Avon’s past, present, and future.

Why is Margaret running : Margaret is committed to preserving Avon’s history, character, and small-town charm.  She advocates for policies that preserve local control and protect your home values, while also resisting unfunded State
mandates.  In her decision-making, Margaret chooses to follow the most logical and least-expensive
path.  Throughout her eighteen years on the Board of Finance, she sometimes voted “No” on proposed
tax increases, and in other years, she was successful in getting a consensus to limit tax increases.
Margaret stands by her “No” vote in 2024 where she was the only member of the Town Council to oppose
the July 2024 tax increase after considering the three “No” referendum votes from her constituents. She
also voted “No” on the 2025 proposed tax increase because she knew that many taxpayers were already
financially burdened by the real estate revaluation. Margaret respectfully asks for your vote, so that she
can continue to support only reasonable tax increases and listen to the voices of Avon constituents.

About the Candidate: Dan immigrated to the United States from Portugal with his parents and older sister in 1969. They settled in the Frog Hollow neighborhood of Hartford, Connecticut, where he was raised in a hardworking, low-income family. Dan attended public schools and graduated from A.I. Prince Regional Vocational Technical High School in 1985, specializing in Machine Tool and Die and Drafting.
Soccer has been a lifelong passion. Dan played throughout high school and competitively until age 25. He began coaching inner-city youth in Hartford and has continued coaching in Avon for the past 14 years. Dan and his wife Ruth have been married for 25 years and raised three children in Avon. Their two oldest, Daniel and Isabella, have launched their careers,
and their youngest is currently finishing high school.
Entrepreneurship has always been in Dan’s blood. He started delivering newspapers for the Hartford Courant at age 11 and held his first job at 15. At 21, Dan founded his first construction company and learned how to run a business through hands-on experience. Today, Dan co-owns two successful construction companies and an LLC that manages
commercial properties with his business partner of 26 years.
Dan’s greatest joy is sharing family dinners and spending time by the ocean.

Why I’m Running for Office
Dan has always exercised his right to vote, as every American citizen should. While Dan never considered himself deeply political, the changes he has witnessed over the past 15 years has compelled him to act. Dan has seen increasing division, fiscal irresponsibility, a decline in respect, and a growing sense of entitlement in government.
Although federal elections are important, Dan believes the most meaningful impact happens at the local level. That’s why Dan is running—to bring common sense back to our local government. Dan will advocate for responsible decision-making, community values, and practical solutions that reflect the needs of our residents.

Dan respectfully asks for your vote and your trust.

Brian Loveless

About the Candidate: About the Candidate: Brian and his wife of 24 have raised their two children in Avon since
2010. Their oldest daughter is entering her Junior year at Eastern Connecticut State
University, studying biology and playing soccer. Their youngest daughter is entering
her Senior year at Northwest Catholic and will be attending Lafayette College in the Fall of
2026 and having been recruited to play soccer. Brian’s professional background is in executive positions; serving in various CFO/COO roles within both the banking and insurance industry throughout his 35-year career. Brian received an MBA in Finance and Entrepreneurial Studies from the University of Southern California, and his undergraduate studies were at Ithaca College where he received a BA in Psychology and Economics. In his free time, Brian enjoys playing pickleball and is an avid skier.

Why am Brian is running for Town Council: Avon is a wonderful community, and Brian feels
extremely fortunate to have lived here for over 15-years and call Avon home. Brian currently serves on the Board of Finance and would like to take that knowledge and experience to the next level and work collaboratively with other members of the Town Council and the Town Manager to make practical, apolitical, and fiscally responsible decisions. All members of our various town boards work for the residents and as of late, that seems to have been turned on its head where voters’ concerns seem to be sidelined or summarily dismissed by some members. We must judiciously allocate your tax dollars to those projects and initiatives that will make our town the absolute best in Farmington Valley; now and for many decades to come. A steady and practical approach to guiding the Town is what Brian will offer, being the best steward he can and always listening to the constituents. Brian would be extremely grateful for your vote!

About the Candidate: My lovely wife of 27 years and I have raised our two children in Avon since 2013. My son is college bound this Fall, and my daughter is entering 3rd grade. We are also pet parents to a 2-year-old Border Collie rescued as a puppy. My professional background is in software and technology innovation, leadership, and management. I received a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from Rensselaer, then over nearly 20 years served at General Electric Research, and later at Pratt & Whitney. Following this, and for the past several years, I have been serving as President and owner of a software technology business that operates at the intersection of technology and law. Politically, I had been an unaffiliated voter and always appreciated trying to understand complex issues from multiple viewpoints.
Why I am running for Town Council: Avon is a lovely town that my family and I have been very fortunate to call home. While it was always on my mind to run for public office to serve Avon, the professional and family focus always ended up taking more priority. I realized I could no longer justify being on the sidelines with respect to how Avon is run, and I need to jump in and provide lasting value to Avon by leveraging my substantial technology leadership and business management experience. Without taking action, I would have no basis to be unhappy with
other’s decisions for Avon. A practical, balanced, well informed and considered approach will always serve a better outcome for all of Avon. A fiscally responsible approach is paramount when there is oversight and influence over how other’s money is spent. There is always great potential for wisdom of crowds which must be leveraged and not discounted. More recently however, voters’ voices in Avon are not being duly heard. Taxation is becoming arbitrary and burdensome on all Avon residents. We need to get back to practicing with discipline the proven values of stewardship, transparency, and accountability to drive measurable lasting results for Avon. Avon deserves to be responsibly steered with these values, and I will sincerely appreciate your support to achieve this vision together.
